readers, i need your help.

readers, mamas, designers, ALL OF YOU!

if you have an opinion, i need to hear it :)

you can catch a few nursery sneak peaks here if you need to brush up -- but those pictures are pretty awful. mah bad.

we've got 3 navy walls, 1 of them which is consumed by the closet, another has the window and the longer one has our grey crib.

across from our navy crib wall, we've got 1 chevron wall with our glider & the dresser/changing table in which we plan to do an art gallery above.

our original plans were to make this room "nautical" ... only as of now, there isnt much of a nautical vibe going at all. we've got a navy storage bin with anchors that holds blankets. which is in the closet, unseen. hopefully that'll change more once we get a move on with the art gallery and etsy purchases.

however. here is where i need your help.

I DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT OVER THE CRIB.

^^ oh hey bad quality picture!

do we go with:

1. this boat picture? {if its available in a large size.. currently waiting to hear back from the seller. dont think an 8x10 would be large enough.}

2. some bunting?

3. a set of vintage sea prints? {only available in 8x10 as the largest}

4. a large monogram?

5. or maybe a large (vintage) map of some sort?

i can not wait to be done with this nursery.
my poor 2nd child. i dont know what we'd ever do to prepare another one.
decorating sucks the life out of me. i am no good.

do our ideas suck? does something else come up in your mind that we could search for?

*disclaimer: our son wont be in his crib for quite some time & safety is first. all things would be safely placed on the wall and up high out of reach. *

  1. my first question is "how high up are you hanging whichever you choose"

I like the bunting, but my concern (as a fellow mama) is that baby G would at some point be able to pull it down and could get tangled, etc in it.

Also if youre wanting to go more nautical, I like the boat picture.

  2. Here's my 2 cents: I like the vintage sea prints. Are you hoping for something the baby grows into or are you hoping to have more of a baby/infant feel?

  3. I also like the vintage sea prints. Since the wall is large, you could do that and the bunting? Do you have a mobile? That will take up some of the visual space.

  4. I like the boat and vintage sea prints. This post is so perfectly timed, as I've been sitting here trying to figure things out for my little miss' nursery. I am so indecisive!!!

  5. I like the vintage sea prints maybe with burlap bunting higher than the prints. I also love the boat print. So great already!!

  6. I also like the bunting combined with the vintage sea prints. I think once you have some artwork up on the walls it will all fall into place. Good luck!

  8. Check out fatheads.com They have removable sticker wall decals. You can mix and match or even create your own.

  9. I am just commenting to say good luck!! I bet it will turn out just perfectly!
I wish I could help but Mia's nursery isn't even CLOSE to being decorated (I blame that on the fact that we thought we were moving just 2 months after she was born... but now that we aren't, I still have no motivation to do much to her room. Bad mom award right here!)

  10. Wow so many options!! I love those vintage prints. What about an arrangments of the vintage prints with his first initial? Sort of like they did in this room:

  12. I suggest a bit of a combination--how about a custom painted triptych with the name in the middle and a nautical design/pattern on the side pieces? It would add a very personal touch to this nursery! Baby K is getting one made for her (by me, obviously!!!) once we pick a name. This lady's Etsy site inspires me and will give you a better idea of what I'm describing! :-)

  13. I like the boat or the sea prints. They are all very cute options though!

  14. Just a thought... Since your chevron wall will also serve as an art gallery you may want to keep the opposite wall a little bit more simple. You don't want your room to feel too busy.

Have you thought of incorporating nautical rope/anchors into your room? And thoughts on mirrors?
Here's a cute mirror that might help tie your theme together, but not over-do it.

Here's another wall mirror that would be cute.

Though I can't get item specific with this site, there is a wooden anchor that is cute. If you did a mirror, having an anchor on each side would be fun.

  15. Well, as a southern girl, I'm fond of the large monogram! :) I think the monogram with the bunting would be adorable!

  16. I like the bunting (you can even see about having some of the pennants being more "nautical" with shapes/pictures), and then doing a couple 8x10 pictures of boats under it? I'm not sure how much space there is, but that would look nice!

  17. I love the idea of a monogram. Are you on Pinterest? OR maybe google "nautical themed monograms". You might find something really cool!

  18. I vote for the art prints!! and some bunting over them on the ceiling! something for baby to look at when he's in the crib :)

So funny that they're doing a nautical theme too!

  20. I think the bunting would be adorable! :) What if you did the boat picture, with the bunting above it?

  21. Have you figured this out yet? I love the idea of a big vintage type map...and maybe some bunting higher up - overlapping a little bit? I would do a cluster of those sea pics, a monograp and other stuff over the changing table (if thats an option)

  22. I would vote vintage pics or the map...if u framed the vintage pics u could do some kind of rope detail to ang them...or a cute boat ring could be fun

  23. Love your nursery. Seriously, so cute! I vote for either the vintage sea prints or the photo of the boar. However, an 8x10 will look too small on the large wall. I think if you possibly do a cluster of sea inspired prints, that would look really cute! Good luck with decorating and the final months.

  24. vintage sea prints...or I love the map idea. It would give a "oh the places you'll go vibe" which would be cool.
