four & five month favorites

life is so busy. so busy that when i began to think about blogging our 6 month favorites after midnight on a tuesday, i realized i never blogged our 4 and 5 month favorites! its the best busy ive ever felt, but it broke my mommy heart that i didn't document these! of course i have to do it before i can move on to the 6 month favorites!

better late than never, yes?!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

1. carrying over from 3 month, we love sophie on a whole new level. C really explored with her during this time and began to teeth really putting her to use! she's one of our toys that is always in our diaper bag when we leave the house!
2. C doesn't take pacifiers often and he definitely doesn't need them which is nice - but we do have a variety of kinds and these MAM ones work best for us. we always have one in my diaper bag, on our main floor, in our bedroom and one in his room for when he gets fussy. they do calm him down a bit if we need that extra minute to make a bottle or when were buckling him in to the car seat. sometimes he will take one for nap but seems to spit it out just as he's getting drowsy. either way, we love the MAM brand!
3. the jumper! the babysitter! the ring of neglect! WHATEVER you want to call it. we C looooves this. he can jump in here for days on end. even when you take him out of it and are playing with him on the floor or in your lap, he will jump all around and bounce his legs. boyfriend is dance happy.
4. isaiah bought this thermometer and he loves it. i just go by the feel of it more so and kind of think C likes it more on the hotter side than the cooler side but I'm happy that it makes my husband feel confident for the nights he gives C a bath :) and i couldn't believe it told me my water temperature when taking a shower is 108! hmmm.
5. we actually won this angel care tub from The Baby Guy when we went to Baby Grand for Gearapalooza '13. C was just 17 days old!! the version we have is actually pink, ha ha. it is a perfect tub though. the water comes through the sling so C stays warm and we noticed he hasn't outgrown it yet. the stump on the bottom holds him in place and as he grows his head is just moving up higher on the sling so were able to fill the tub up more. now that he's sitting on his own he likes to do that at the bottom too and the stump still keeps him in place from slipping. theres a nice little loop on the top of it that lets us hang it up to dry after. we all like using this tub!
6. a pumping mothers necessity. need i say more?
oh yes. C is obsessed with my pumping bra and my pump. i can not pump near this man because he crawls on me like a jungle gym in desperation of chewing/sucking on my plastic flanges and tugging on my tubes.
i have my pump next to my night stand with my pumping bra in my nursing bag which is also right next to my bed/night stand… i kid you not, every morning, i wake up to crue climbing OVER my head in anticipation to grab my pumping tubes and yank it off the bed. the other morning he scooted so far on my side of the bed that i pretty much got kicked out, so i got up & crawled back in on isaiahs side… i literally woke up to my pump crashing on the floor since C didn't have to climb over me to get to it. determination!

C has his first tooth!
i felt it last night as he chomped down on my finger and sure enough, there were some rough jagged edges that dug right in!
its not very easy to see yet and he is no fan of me trying to take a peek.

i can't believe it.

my baby has his first tooth.

i didn't even know he was teething!!
thankful he's still been so cheerful!

this all calls for an emotional mama.

feelin' his new toofer

are you ready to take a drink…. say it with me now. when did my baby get so big?!

i can't handle this 6 month stuff.
it is serious business.

a big hug for huggies!

i have never put so much thought in to diapers! of course, until i had a baby of my own. i never wanted to see my baby have a sore bottom or experience a diaper rash, so choosing the right diaper became very important in our house!

we have tried a few different brands of diapers and have enjoyed them each for their own reasons. it wasn't until C was in between sizes that things became a problem for us. many brands size 2's were too tight around the legs leaving marks along with not going up high enough causing plenty of blow outs up the back, and many brands size 3's were too big causing blowouts there too! poo leaking out of my babes diapers and down his leg to find a pool of it in his sock was never a fun experience!

Huggies are available size 1 (up to 14lbs) through size 6 (over 35lbs). you can find them retail priced at $9.99 for a jumbo pack, or $19.99 for a big pack! keep in mind that the number of diapers per pack varies based on the size you need ;)

in addition to the Huggies leak lock protection, the snug and dry diapers have a SureFit design - providing up to 12 hours of leakage protection. if you've been around my blog for a while, you know that my 6 month old sleeps through the night averaging 10-12 hours, so that SureFit has helped us all around! these diapers fit better and we are not changing our sheets in the middle of the night!

i love that Huggies is a great company all around. you can visit their website to take the Huggies Challenge for a chance to win prizes as you complete a challenge. for every challenge completed, Huggies Every Little Bottom donates diapers to a baby in need! *swoon*

thank you Huggies for sponsoring today's post!

SO WHAT! wednesday

this week im linking up with Shannon over at 'Life After I Dew' for so what wednesday!

it's been a while since I've linked up and over the time shannon has changed her ways in to something positive, which i totally love. (what don't i love about shannon?!)

SO WHAT if we started co-sleeping.

it began when we were in chicago for a work convention of isaiah's company, spending a week in a hotel and dealing with C's first ear infection.

we love it. my husband loves it. i don't mind it. and to say that C loves it is seeming to be an understatement.
i am NOT about mommy wars, judging moms, competitive moms… whatever that pool is. count me out. {speaking of, this article about wanting off a "motherhood team" is an absolute FAVORITE of mine}
i AM about doing whats best for you. for your family. for your baby.
i never thought i would be co-sleeping. isaiah and i both were on the same page when we said it was a habit we didn't want to start. something that we were terrified of allowing to happen when C was a newborn. maybe now that he's bigger were less afraid of squishing him?
but it works.

i love being able to soothe my son in the middle of the night if he happens to wake up. i love that he knows mommy and daddy are right there. i love that he's able to trust us and count on us.
having help from my husband in the middle of the night is an added bonus. sometimes he will hear C first and lay him on his chest - where they both fall back asleep within a moments of time. unlike me, once im up with C, im up for at least an hour regardless of how quick he falls back asleep.
love the snuggles. waking up to him every morning crawling over my shoulders or rubbing his hand on my cheek is the best way to wake up.

ive decided to let go about worrying how long C may sleep with us and enjoy these moments. right now isaiah and i are both on the same page of hoping to have him fully transitioned by the time he is 9 months old, and i feel like thats a good goal without too much pressure. less stress.

this too shall pass.

if you've been around a while, you know that isaiah wakes C up every morning to feed him and hang out before work. just before zay walks the dogs and hops in the shower, he puts C back down in our bed with me. we always put C down awake and he puts himself to sleep.
this morning, he crawled over to me - rubbed my cheek and head butt me. when i lifted my head to look at him, he scooted closer, laid his head on my pillow AND GRABBED MY HAND.
then he fell asleep. HOLDING MY HAND. snuggling and cozied up. next to me!!!
kill me dead.
that right there, is worth it all.

im thankful for these moments. these chances. to relax with my baby boy. the one who made a mother, something that i was told to be impossible. i don't wish it away.

its true what they say: babies don't keep.

and we dove right in.

we went to trader joes over the weekend and bought some stuff so we can dig in to eating with C and feeding him solids! we bought carrots, squash and sweet potatoes - all things i don't eat myself so it was kind of trial and error when it came to making these sweet potatoes for him. we peeled the potato in some water and cut it into spear wedges before placing them on a cookie sheet. i sprinkled on some olive oil on all of them and some light cinnamon on a few of them. i had no idea how C would like these, but i think he definitely enjoyed himself!

when did my baby get so big?!
{i know, i say that A LOT around these woods. you might as well just start taking a shot every time}

valentines day 2014

on valentines day we had C's 6 month appointment :( we slept in and had lots of extra snuggles & woke up to find a caribo gift card from daddy waiting in the bathroom ;) my favorite! then C and i had a little photo-shoot while he was happy because my poor baby got 5 shots on his first valentines day!
we left the house at 2, grabbed some caribou and met up with isaiah at the doctors office. after his check up we went with isaiah back to work so he could send out an email to his client before the weekend began. i kind of regret going with him instead of coming home right away because then it took AN HOUR to get back instead of about 20 minutes. but oh well, it was valentines day right?!
we had dinner at chipotle and dessert downtown at the marquette lobby. my red velvet cake was SO good! our plans were to hit up the melting pot like we had the last 3 years but they were booked solid up until closing. :( not surprised.
2013 we were 17 weeks pregnant and had dinner at Bucca. 2012 neither of us can remember? 2011 was our first valentines day together and isaiah went all out. he had reservations at 3 different places for appetizers, our main meal and dessert. then we went ice skating at the depot where he had booked a suite to stay the night with champagne, flowers and the works. i still remember the card and all of my presents from that year. i need to go picture creep so i can figure out what happened for 2012.
this time it was a low key night and not much different from any other friday night of ours but thats totally okay with me! we had a sick baby to snuggle up with :)

hope you all had a great valentines day!

crue: SIX M0NTHS!

hey holy month of new milestones!
i can't believe its been half a year of being this boys mama. even though i cried at how fast time is flying, i can't wait to see what the next 6 months bring. my life has never been so fun, and my heart has never been so full.

doctor appointment: 2/14 (2 weeks after turning 6 months)
weight: 16lbs 4oz when we went in for his ear infection on 1/30 & 16lbs 10oz on 2/14! (for his 5 month update i predicted high end of 16lbs/low end of 17lbs!)
height: 27in
head: 17in/43cm

nicknames: C, crue-shoe, boo-bear, chunkamunk, crumanji

- big difference from last month. we made it OUT of the RnP though, and i call that a success! baby steps.
- tummy sleeper through and through. i about had a heart attack when this began, but i've adjusted since! he will always be on his belly now and prefers to stick his booty in the air with his hands tucked under near his belly button.
- we spent about a week in the PnP. we started out in it but ended up in our bed. when we went to chicago, we had a HUGE king bed and started co-sleeping. i don't know if it was the new place that startled him but that the first few nights in that hotel room was when he woke up crying the hardest and would NOT settle back down in the PnP. with having neighbors and it being a work trip, we brought him into our bed and before the week ended he just started out in our bed with us.
- he got his first ear infection and we found out just a few days after returning home from Chicago so i'm not sure when he got it :( but that continued him sleeping in our bed because it is much easier at 2am to rub his back and soothe him that way.
- another reason we ditched the PnP was because he was able to pull himself up and jolt himself over board. ours only lowered to be completely on the bottom and i refused to bend over at the waist to rub his back for however long it took in the middle of the night.
- we've been cosleeping for about 3 weeks now and it works for us. zay and i have chatted about transitioning him into his room soon and hope that by 9 months he's in his crib, in his room. thats our goal so we have some time to work slowly towards it. i think over the weekend we will bring his crib into our room and work on that transition first! wish us luck!
- spent about the first two-three weeks waking up like clockwork between 1:50am-2:30am. most nights we would be back to sleep within 10-15 minutes, a few nights taking a little longer up to 45 minutes.

- holy growth spurt batman!!
breast milk is still the main nutrition. i pump like its my job. i can tell my supply is dwindling so im going to have to pump more during the day i think. hopefully it'll be easier now that he can play independently but its the stopping every 2 minutes to run after him before he gets into something thats making it hard! thankfully, i have a pretty good freezer stash that keeps us about 2-3 months ahead.
- baby led weaning but not 100% full force. we've experimented with pancakes, celery, scrambled eggs and carrots. but he's also had some oatmeal mixed with tomato soup, oatmeal mixed with salmon and pureed peas. a total of 3 times but after our doctor appointment we'll be upping our solid intake and getting on a schedule!
- baby boy has been nursing!!! its been about TWO MONTHS since we've been able to sit through a nursing session and though its still not happening often, i am amazed that its happening at all! so sweet.

- most upset moments are being zipped up into the snow suit and waking up at 2am.
- we get compliments in public UP THE WAZOO about how good and happy he is! the other day i had a 2.5 lunch date at noodles&co and three people had made comments about content he was.
- plays independently for a good 45 minutes. i try so hard to intervene sometimes and he just crawls away from me! he's even started closing the door on my face. teenage years with this one might not be so pretty.
- were still in leap 5 of the wonder weeks and im pretty sure its half the reason were going through some of the rough patches. he sure is learning a lot which is neat to see it all coming together but holy cow! 29 days until were out!

- eating with us during dinner
- being tickled
- swimming (can't wait to start lessons in march!)
- crawling
- pulling himself up
- bouncing in his bouncer

- getting zipped into the snow suit
- mommy or daddy leaving the room (occasionally, its a hit or miss. sometimes he's like "NOOOO DONT GOOO!!!" and other times its him leaving us like "SEE YA BYE!")
- the word "NO" (just like mama)
- being pulled away from the dog bowls (100x a day)
- sitting in the high chair without food

- diapers version 2 1/2 ha ha ha. the honest size 2's are a bit too small and the honest 3's are super huge. after our week in chicago with about 5 blow outs and messy clothes a day we decided to open our pampers from the baby shower and check those out. thankfully - they're a perfect fit! were just a few days in and no diaper rash so i hope that won't happen! and then we'll be back into honest 3's!
- 70% in 0-3 months and 30% into 3-6 months. we started buying 6-12 months and just before his 6 month photos began trying things on, only to find out it is =/ i don't really understand. my baby isn't tiny?! i get the 3-6 months but it baffles me he's still wearing 0-3 months!
- size 1 in shoes, but were sneaking in his size 2 freshly picked moccs every once in a while ;)

milestones/whats happening:
taking his 6 month pictures were more work than ever before. for a few reasons!
- baby boy had his first ear infection :(
- were teething *UPDATE* we have our first tooth!! we discovered it sunday night on 2/23/14.
- we are MOBILE!!! just 2 weeks before hitting 6 months he started scooting around and now he is full blown crawling. ALL.OVER. hide the dog bowls and cover the blinds.
- saying "da da" !
- we drove to chicago, first long trip in the car (8 hours) and being in the convertible car seat. stayed in a hotel for a week and met lots of new people, including "uncle" kenny!
- went swimming for the first time! LOVED it. i really do hope we have a water baby on our hands! i know i sure was. (and still am)!
- pulling ourselves up on ALL THE THINGS. mirrors, cribs, laundry baskets, the couch, the dog and his toy bin.
- had a babysitter for the 3rd time while momma and daddy went to another work event. 1st time being babysat by my dad {grandpa} and it went so well!
- starting some purees along with some baby led weaning experiences. he gets so jealous when were eating food and he's not! its crazy that now i will order meals if were out based on if it has something i can give to him! greedy fella.
- switched to the convertible car seat
- started riding in his stroller like a big boy!
- began co-sleeping
- started waking up somewhere between 1:50am-2:30am every night like clockwork. it started when the ear infection began :( and has continued for the last 2 weeks. more often than not it just takes a quick "shhh" along with a back rub and were all back to sleep within 5 minutes. but i don't know where my sleeping through the night baby went!
- booked our first cruise! so excited that it will finally be happening. sweet ruthie just posted about taking their baby ford to cabo and they had a great experience! ford is only a few days younger than C and im dying to get those boys together in real life! back to what i was saying… her post made me feel extra confident about taking C on a vacation with us.

- in complete awe of how fast time is flying
- missing the newborn days, bittersweet!
- busy chasing this booger around all day ;)
- can not WAIT for it to get warmer!

- working hard but coming home earlier to see us :)
- loves tickling C, especially on the feet with his scruffy 'beard'
- excited for C to start walking and talking!

(written in caps because its the button on the keyboard C *never* fails to hit!)
